Bennett & Williams, Inc. is performing research related to environmental and disaster science regulatory policy for offshore drilling in Virginia. After the explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon this spring, a moratorium on offshore drilling was implemented in the Gulf Region, set to expire November 30, 2010. The Obama administration lifted this moratorium on October 12, 2010, and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar proposed establishing an “Ocean Energy Safety Institute” for research and development aimed at preventing similar disasters in the future. Bennett & Williams, Inc.’s ongoing research combining environmental and disaster science disciplines is reflective of the Institute’s collaborative efforts and objectives.
